Breast surgery offers a wide range of possibilities. In many cases, different techniques can even be combined to adapt the procedure to each patient’s needs, anatomy and expectations.
There are several questions that help us understand what each patient is looking for and allow us to design the most appropriate surgical plan for her.
1. Do you want to increase your current breast size?
When the goal is to increase breast volume, breast implants are necessary in most cases.
There are also alternatives such as fat transfer, which uses the patient’s own fat to achieve a more subtle and natural increase. However, this technique has limitations, as it does not allow for a very significant change in volume.
2. Do you feel that your breasts have dropped or lost their shape?
If this is the case, a mastopexy, or breast lift, may be necessary.
Whether the surgery is performed with or without implants, a breast that has significantly dropped usually requires a lift. In most cases, sagging cannot be corrected with an implant alone.
Trying to lift a very descended breast simply by adding an implant may lead to a result that does not meet expectations. It can also limit the possibility of properly repositioning the breast, restoring a rounded shape and creating a more elevated neckline.
Sometimes, in an attempt to avoid longer scars or to meet the patient’s request for the smallest scar possible, the wrong technique may be chosen. This can affect the final result and, in some cases, may be difficult to correct. That is why an individual medical assessment is essential.
3. Do you have back pain and think the weight of your breasts may be related?
Large breasts can cause back pain, limit the ability to exercise and affect a patient’s quality of life.
In these cases, a breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, may be the right solution. This surgery focuses on reducing breast volume, but it does much more than simply remove breast tissue. It also allows us to lift the breast, improve its shape and restore a more balanced and harmonious appearance.
As you can see, there are many options available for patients who want to improve the appearance of their breasts and feel comfortable, beautiful and confident again.
Each surgery must be adapted to the individual needs of the patient, always with the goal of turning her expectations into a realistic, safe and personalized surgical plan.
