Abdominoplastia
Abdominoplasty is a surgery that allows us to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen, especially that which accumulates below the navel.
When we perform a traditional abdominoplasty, we take the opportunity to restore the position of the abdominal muscles that may have separated due to pregnancy, weight loss, or the passage of time, resulting in a distended appearance of the abdomen. This is done by suturing the fascia of the rectus muscles, which some of my patients refer to as "tying the muscles" or "creating a corset.
The incision is made at the level of the pubis, very low so that it is not visible with underwear or a bikini. The length of the incision will depend on the amount of excess skin and fat each patient has. In some cases, such as patients who have experienced massive weight loss after bariatric surgery, the scar may extend to the back to achieve a better result.
Achieve a flatter abdomen with tighter skin, improved appearance, and even eliminate stretch marks on the lower abdomen while enhancing the appearance of those that remain.
Although it can be performed alone, in most cases we recommend performing liposuction on the areas of the waist, back, and upper abdomen. This allows us to better shape the abdomen, resulting in an overall improvement of the contour.

Have Questions?
Here, you can find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. However, if you still have any concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.
How long does the surgery last?
It can last from 2 to 4 hours, depending on whether liposuction is performed or not. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, and the need for hospitalization will depend on the duration of the surgery and the characteristics of the patient.
Are drains used in this surgery?
Yes, the use of drains is necessary in this surgery to eliminate any residual fluid and blood that accumulates in the abdomen after the procedure. They will remain in place for 3 to 5 days.
Does everyone need liposuction when undergoing abdominoplasty?
Most patients will benefit from having liposuction in conjunction with abdominoplasty, as this helps improve the appearance of the entire abdomen, waist, and back, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing body contour. However, this does not mean that abdominoplasty cannot be performed without liposuction.
Will the scar around the belly button be very visible?
The scar around the belly button will be carefully sutured so that the belly button appears slightly recessed and the scar is concealed.
Should I get massages after the surgery?
Not always, only in the case of combined procedures with liposuction.
Will I need to wear a compression garment after surgery?
Yes, you will leave surgery with the garment on, and you should wear it for 3 months.
Should I remain "hunched over" after surgery?
When performing abdominoplasty, we aim to remove as much excess skin as possible and leave the abdomen stretched and flattened. Therefore, patients cannot walk fully upright during the first few days. Each day, you will be able to straighten more until you can walk normally within 1 to 2 weeks.
How long does recovery take?
Typically, recovery takes about two weeks. If your job is an office job, returning to work will be easier and quicker. If your job involves physical exertion or lifting, it may take longer to return.
Can I exercise after the surgery?
My recommendation is to start walking from the first day after surgery. This will help prevent the formation of clots in the legs and other possible complications. You can return to normal exercise within 4 to 6 weeks, but this should be gradual, starting with less time and lower intensity than usual.
The first step to loving the body you inhabit starts now.
